Antique Chinese

Sydney’s Best Range of Antique Chinese Furniture

Each unique piece from our Antique Chinese furniture collection has been recovered from rural provinces in China and restored to its former beauty and glory. This collection reflects the way in which people lived and how they interacted with their environment and with each other. Some of our pieces date back to the early 1900s and have been crafted from elegant Chinese elm, displaying traditional sophistication and ingenious joinery.

We source hand-picked antique furniture with rich Chinese heritage

Julia and Rob, who own Shack in Sydney together with Helena, our stylist, hand-select pieces during their regular travels in China. We aim to pick the finest oriental furniture for our Sydney-based customers.

In order to preserve the original appearance and condition, tenon and mortise techniques are employed in the repair of all pieces, paint is used to maintain its simplicity, and stains which developed during the process of use are removed.

We restore all of our pieces by hand in order to be precise. We pay attention to the way in which the original colour has been preserved and employ special techniques to restore its original brightness. Then, we apply a clear coat of lacquer to the surface. There is a special skill in retaining the gracefulness of the piece and we aim to pay respect to every item. Delicately carved, the motifs are symbolic of beliefs of an earlier time – these aspirations continue to resonate in today’s world..
